FRAXEL™

The Fraxel Restore laser is a unique noninvasive laser designed to dramatically improve skin texture and pigmentation.  Primarily used to treat photodamaged skin, fine-line wrinkles and acne scars, the Fraxel Re:store laser is also used to improve the appearance of surgical scars, enlarged pores, melasma, stretch marks and hypopigmented scars.

Fraxel is the prototype of fractionated resurfacing lasers.  It works by delivering microscopic zones of thermal injury to the skin in a pattern resembling pixels in a digital image.  Because only a fraction of the skin is treated, adjacent untreated skin surrounding20the microthermal zones (MTZs) is available to facilitate rapid repair.  The skin’s surface, the epidermis, is healed within 24 hours while collagen production and remodeling continues beneath the epidermis, in the dermis, for 3-6 months following treatment.  This technology allows for minimal down time and avoids the untoward side effects seen with older resurfacing technologies.

All treatments are administered by a physician.  Topical anesthesia is applied in the office prior to the procedure to minimize patient discomfort.  The number of treatments necessary depends upon the condition and its severity.  Depending upon the treatment parameters, patients may experience redness and swelling lasting 24-48 hours.
